Photojournalistic wedding photography and censorship

You can take pictures of just about anything in photojournalistic wedding photography, including photos of people taking photos of other people, like this picture of a flowergirl or bridesmaid and page boy taking photographs of each other at a wedding, but is it sometimes better to `censor’ your wedding photographs?

Even so, there must be some situations where it isn’t a good idea to use reportage wedding photography.
It’s pretty obvious that it’s better to avoid taking pictures of people who are in an embarrassing situation.
The problem is, who decides whether it’s an embarrassing situation? The bride or groom – the people who are paying for the wedding photos – might regard an embarrassing situation as a humorous situation.
The wedding photographer might look at a situation, decide that it’s embarrassing and decide not to photograph it.
A few days after the wedding, when the happy couple are looking at his pictures, they might ask him why he didn’t take a picture of this `embarrassing’ situation – the situation that he thought was too embarrassing but they thought was humorous.

Wedding photos and censorship

It’s probably better if the wedding photographer doesn’t `censor’ his wedding photos in this way.
It’s probably better to just take them and explain to the bride and groom that he doesn’t censor his photos, he just takes them and lets the couple decide whether they want to use them in their wedding photo album.
