Lowepro Primus AW camera backpack as a backpacking backpack

The Lowepro Primus AW camera backpack can be used for photography equipment and for backpacking or travel.
This article looks at how it might be used for backpacking, and it will be followed by a look at how it might be used for travel.

The Lowepro Primus AW backpack is only intended to be used for light backpacking, for a day’s hiking in the wilderness for example.

However, things can go wrong on these  day’s hiking trips, the photographer\backpacker might have an accident and might have to spend a night or maybe several nights out in the wilderness.
With this possibility in mind, however remote, probably the most useful item to pack in a combination camera backpack\backpacking backpack like this is warm clothing.
So as an experiment, I thought that I’d try to pack a windcheater into the backpack.
The windcheater that I used for the experiment is just an ordinary ’street’ windcheater, it isn’t specifically designed for harsh conditions in the wilderness.
But it has a warm lining and it zips all the way up, so at least it would give some protection from the cold in an emergency situation.
The other item that I tried to pack into the camera backpack is a ‘thermal hat,’ the kind that is made from a thermal material and is specifically designed to keep the head warm.
It’s a pretty well-known fact that 15% of our body heat is normally lost through the head.
I found that the windcheater and thermal hat just about fitted into the backpacking compartment of the backpack, although they have to be packed pretty tightly.
