Career as portrait photographer

Although portrait photographs are usually taken in a photography studio they can also be taken in peoples’ homes.

The technical advantages of working in your own photography studio are that you are familiar with the surroundings and you can completely control the lighting and the backgrounds. The psychological advantages are that you might feel more comfortable working in your own premises rather than in someone else’s home. If you feel more comfortable you might feel more confident, and produce better work.
If you are working in someone elses’ home you have some control over the lighting and backgrounds. But you might have to move things around – make room for studio lighting stands and stands for background props.
But this kind of location does have one great advantage, and that is that people feel more comfortable in their own homes. They might be more likely to respond to you, pose more willingly, if they have this feeling of security.
